Free AI Prompt: Market Research Report for Your Local Business

Market Research AI prompt with DEEP RESEARCH enabled

Table Of Contents

Most business owners have never seen their own market laid out in one place. You know your customers and you know your competitors by name, but you probably have not sat down and asked: where do we stand, what are we missing, and where could the next leads come from?

This prompt does that work for you. It is the one we run at the start of every client engagement at Norzer, adapted so you can use it on your own business.

What it is

A free prompt you paste into an AI tool with deep research mode turned on. It tells the AI to act as a market research analyst and build a full report on your business.

What it does

The report comes back organized into seven sections:

  • Company Background. How your business looks from the outside.
  • Market Overview. What your market looks like right now.
  • Competitor Analysis. What the businesses you are up against offer, how they position themselves, and where they are weak. Their weaknesses are your openings.
  • Opportunities and Growth Angles. Services, audiences, and areas you are not going after yet.
  • Missing Information and Questions to Answer. The gaps in your own business information that hold back your website, your Google Business Profile, and your marketing.
  • Unique and Niche Ideas. Content, lead magnets, partnerships, and community projects that fit your business.
  • Recommendations. Quick wins for this month and bigger moves for the next year.

How to use it

  1. Write a short business summary. A few honest paragraphs: what you do, the services you offer, the towns you serve, your best customers, who you see as your competition, and what you want more of.
  2. Open your AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) and start a new project or chat. Paste in your summary.
  3. Turn on deep research mode. It may be called Deep Research or Research.
  4. Paste the prompt below, and replace [BUSINESS NAME] and [CITY] with yours.
  5. Ask the AI: “Are there any questions I could answer that would help you better complete this task?” Answer them. This removes guesses and makes the report about your real business.
  6. Wait for the report. Deep research takes a while. When it finishes, ask: “Knowing what you know now, would you do anything different?”
  7. Read it with a pen. Not every idea will fit you, and AI can be confidently wrong about details, so check anything that sounds off. Save the report in your project so you can use it again.

The prompt

You are a market research analyst specializing in competitive intelligence and digital strategy for local businesses. I want you to perform an in-depth analysis of my business, [BUSINESS NAME] in [CITY]. Your goal is to:

Understand my business’s market position, target audience, and competitors. Take into account everything in this project, including my business summary, my audit notes, and our previous discussions.

Identify growth opportunities my business may be missing that would directly increase revenue and lead generation.

Highlight gaps or missing information about my business that could hold back my website, my Google Business Profile, or my marketing, or cause delays and rework if not cleared up front.

Provide insights I can use for digital marketing, local SEO, website strategy, and lead generation.

Suggest new services, offerings, or features I could add to capture more leads and stand out in my market.

Include unique or niche ideas (creative content, lead magnets, partnerships, community initiatives, and so on).

Provide both quick wins (short-term tactics) and longer-term growth strategies.

Structure the output with clear headings and a competitor comparison section:

  • Company Background
  • Market Overview
  • Competitor Analysis
  • Opportunities and Growth Angles
  • Missing Information and Questions to Answer
  • Unique and Niche Ideas
  • Recommendations (short-term and long-term)

Create this entire report as a document I can download and open cleanly in Word or Google Docs.

A few tips

  • Do the audit first. If you have already worked through the 30-point audit in Halo One, add your notes to the project before you run this. The report gets much better when the AI has your real gaps to work with.
  • Answer honestly. The report is only as good as what you give it.
  • Verify the details. Check the competitor facts, hours, and services it reports before you act on them.
  • Run it again in six months. Markets change, and so does your business.

Where this comes from

This prompt is from Halo One: The Small Business Playbook for Getting Found and Generating Real Leads from Google and AI Search (GEO), Chapter 1. The book walks through the full audit and every step after it.
